Business Outcomes through Clarity with Alignment

Clarity of purpose. Alignment of prioritized focus. In a nutshell, those two aspects are infrequently together for most of the teams in organizations. One or the other? Maybe. Both? Sadly, not often enough.

Clarity of outcomes is the foundation of — and leads to — alignment of effort and coordination. The alignment of teams to clear outcomes makes prioritization with coordination possible. Prioritization of work and workflow is autonomously self-directed by the teams doing the work.

Measuring and understanding the impact of the work, not just the activity of the work, is our end goal. To validate any performance data, capture and aggregate team(s) feedback (qualified data) and quantify it to inform leaders so that meaningful decisions are made.

If you want to change how your organization/company/unit gets results, but you’re finding it’s terribly complex and hard to know what to change, consider the following sequence of thinking. Ask yourself after each sentence “Do I/we focus on and do this?” When the answer is ‘yes’, continue and repeat. When the answer is ‘no’, consider why that is because that’s closer to the root of your issues than the issues themselves.
